Ok this recipe requires a little bit of preparation but it’s really fun getting your hands in there and mixing all the ingredients together to form the meatballs. I’ve called this recipe Simple Tomato & Herb Spaghetti Meatballs because the sauce is very basic but if you think you can handle more heat, then why not add a little chilli powder. Just remember, whether you like your meatballs big or small, try to make them all the same size so that they all cook evenly.
Ingredients
Meatballs ingredients:
· 350g beef steak mince
· 1 egg
· 30g fresh breadcrumbs
· 1/2 small red onion finely diced
· 2 cloves garlic finely chopped.
· ½ teaspoon pepper
· Small bunch fresh basil –chopped
Tomato Sauce ingredients:
· 300g Tomato Pasatta
· 2 Tbsp. balsamic vinegar
· 2 Tsp. honey
· 1 Tsp. mustard (of your liking)
· 2 Tbsp. Oregano
Directions
To make the meatballs
1. Mix together all the meatball ingredients.
2. Form into small balls using your hands (really press them together) and place on a baking tray. (Makes 15 - 20).
3. Place in the fridge for 30 mins (or overnight) so that they have time to set. The longer you can leave them the better.
4. Preheat the oven to 180 C and put the meatballs in for 30 mins.
To make the sauce
1. Heat all the tomato sauce ingredients in a saucepan on a low heat and stir.
2. Be careful it may splash out if it boils.
Then:
1. When the meatballs are done, carefully transfer them into the sauce and gently stir. Try not to break them up!
2. Allow to cook for another 5-10 mins, then serve with spaghetti.
Note: Simply make the spaghetti as instructed on the packet.
