Healthy Ever After is very excited to bring you another Easter Kids Cooking Camp.  Each camp the children will make 10 recipes and learn basic cooking techniques, while meeting new friends, workings as a team and having fun.  These camps are suitable for kids from 8 years and older. The Kids Cooking Camp takes place as always in the professional chef training kitchens at ATU (formally GMIT) in Galway City.

The classes are taking place in a professional kitchen and each child will receive a free recipe folder containing all of their recipes for the camp. All of the ingredients and cooking equipment will also be supplied.  All your child will need to bring is their own apron.

Each morning the children will be making something sweet and something savoury which they can take home or eat there and then.

Each day a Chef Of The Day Certificate will be given to the mini chef who shows kindness to others, who tries to work as a team and who keeps their work station clean and tidy.

Then on the final day of the camp the children will be given 2 mystery recipes which they will make from scratch and present to the judges. The winner will take home the coveted Winner of the Great Kids Cooking Camp Competition certificate.

There is no experience needed to take part in this camp. All you need is a positive attitude, a willingness to take part, meet new friends and have fun.

Policy on Child Protection, Welfare, Fire, Health and Safety

Healthy Ever After Kids provides cookery Camps for children from the age of 8yrs upwards. Our goal is to create a safe, educational and fun environment where children learn how to prepare and cook a variety of foods.

Child Protection

.Our organisation believes that the best interests of children and young people attending our services are paramount. We believe that all children attending our service have the right to be protected, treated with respect, listened to and to have their views taken into consideration in all decisions affecting them. Our guiding principles are underpinned by Children First: National Guidance for the Protection and Welfare of Children, Tusla’s Child Safeguarding: A Guide for Policy, Procedure and Practice, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and current legislation such as the Children First Act 2015, Child Care Act 1991, Protections for Persons Reporting Child Abuse Act 1998 and the National Vetting Bureau Act 2012.

Our guiding principles apply to all paid staff and students on work placement within our organisation. All staff and students must sign up to and abide by these guiding principles and our child safeguarding procedures.

We will review our guiding principles and child safeguarding procedures every two years or sooner if necessary due to service issues or changes in legislation or national policy.

Our Deputy Designated Liaison Person is Contact detailsFiona McEnroy (Director) is the designated person in Healthy Ever After Kids to deal with matters arising out of concerns for the welfare of a child.

Recruitment

Healthy Ever After Kids apply for Garda Vetting for all our staff. This process is done through Irish Vetting Services.

It is our policy to ask for one references for employees and have also asked our staff to inform us if they have received Garda clearance through another organisation.

Record keeping

Healthy Ever After Kids does not keep records of children attending Camps and deem it the responsibility of parents of the children to inform staff of anything we need to know in relation to their children.

Healthy Ever After Kids has an accident book where it will record any incidents and inform parents of any incident concerning a child on the day it happens.

The children attending Healthy Ever After Kids are in a safe and secure environment.

Ways in which the team at Healthy Ever After Kids ensure best practice in the workplace:

Any adult working in Healthy Ever After Kids will not be alone with an individual child for long periods of time.

During the summer camps the children are escorted to the bathroom in groups at regular bathroom breaks.  However, if a child needs to use the bathroom outside of the bathroom breaks a member of staff will guide the child to the bathroom.

In this event, the staff member assisting the child will inform the second staff member that they will be assisting a child to the bathroom. The staff at Healthy Ever After Kids will respect the wishes of the child at all times during this interaction and may assist the child if necessary. It is at the discretion of the member of staff whether to assist or not depending on the appropriateness and whether or not they are comfortable to assist.

The doors to the kitchen during the camps can only be open by a key card holder. This ensures people cannot enter the premises uninvited while a camp is taking place. When a camp/class is over the children are escorted to a designated pick up area to allow for collection of children and Healthy Ever After Kids do not allow a child leave the building unless there is an adult present for them.  The parent must also sign out the child before leaving.

Procedure in case of a fire

At the onset of each camp/class Healthy Ever After Kids will go through the safety in the kitchen rules, such as not running in the kitchen, precautions while using the gas rings and cleaning up any spillages. They will also be told what to do in case of a fire in the kitchen.  There are fire extinguishers and a fire blanket on site, a working fire alarm system and clear access to exits. There are clear signs of where to exit in case of a fire.

The staff at Healthy Ever After Kids will assist all children to evacuate the building immediately. A staff member will remain in the kitchen and will be responsible for ensuring everyone gets out safely. The children will then be escorted out of the building to the meeting point at the front of the building. Parents will be notified.

One of the staff will alert the emergency services.

Procedure in case of a medical emergency

There is a first aid box on site, some of our staff have basic first aid training. Small injuries will be tended to by us (small cuts etc) and anything more serious, parent and if required, emergency services will be contacted.
All accidents/incidents will be recorded in our accident book.

Healthy Ever After Kids respects the needs, beliefs, religion and culture of children attending the school and will make every effort to facilitate children in these areas.
